When your son joins Pack 230 he will be presented
with this leather Activity Fob. An Activity Fob starts as a plain piece of
leather suitable for attachment to a scouts uniform belt. As one of the
first den activities new scouts will undertake, your son will decorate his
fob making it uniquely his. Usually fobs will contain the pack number, a
Cub Scout logo, a scout's initials, and whatever decoration he may wish to
include. Fob's are then inked in black to make the decorations stand out!
After decorating his fob his den leader will help him attach blue and yellow
activity bands which are used to hold activity beads.
Upon completion of his Activity Fob the den leader will present the scout with
his first activity bead to commemorate the completion of his fob. This is a
special bead which will be worn on the Activity Fob to remind the scout of his
first Den Meeting as a member of the Pack. This special bead is hung from
the center, lower most hole of the fob.
There are five holes for hanging activity beads from the fob. The center hole is
for displaying the First Den meeting Fob completion bead. Each of the remaining
four holes represent a year of scouting.
Beads will be earned by scouts as he and his parents participate in
Pack activities.
At the last Pack Meeting of each scouting year we hold a "Tying off" ceremony
at which time the scout is presented with a "Tying Off Bead" to complete the chain
of beads he earned during the past year of scouting.
